The Medicine Buddha (in Tibetan, Sangye Menla; in Sanskrit, Bhaisajyaguru) is one of the most popular Buddhas for healing the sick and helping the dying. But not only that, in The Medicine Buddha Sutra this Buddha made the aspiration that whoever chants his mantra or says his name may have all their sickness alleviated. As a bodhisattva, he made countless prayers to pacify the many problems of sentient beings and to help them achieve temporary and ultimate happiness. Depicted in the sutra aspect, as a monk, he has a blue body and holds an alms bowl that contains nectars and medicinal herbs for healing our mental and physical problems. Reciting the mantra of the Medicine Buddha can help us heal our sickness, purify our minds, solve our problems, and achieve our goals.
